Nottingham Local Improvement Network

From March to May 2011, I have been supporting LINk's drive towards re-establishing itself for 2011-12 with a new host organisation. My role has been to provide the Board with analysis of national and regional trends in local authority funding and of the implications of Health White Paper for LINk organisations.

This resulted in a new Action Plan in support of the Local Improvement Network's negotiations with the PCT and City Council.  Nottingham Local Improvement Network is seeking to collaborate with the new health structures in the City so that (in common with other LINks across the UK) in the course of 2011/12, LINks will be transformed into Local HealthWatch organisations, in line with the statutory requirement. Healthwatch will be the local consumer champion across health and social care, as announced by the new Government in July 2010, and set out in the White Paper "Equality and Excellence: Liberating the NHS".

What is a LINk?

Local Involvement Networks (LINks)
are statutory independent networks of local people, organisations and groups, set up to transform the effectiveness of health and social care services. LINk members make a significant contribution to the planning and monitoring of local services.

They promote public involvement and the development of user-led services. There are 150 LINks across the country, working to improve effectiveness of health and social care services in their area.

LINks were set up under the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act (2007).
